IES (Institute of European Studies, UC Berkeley) interviewed Bianca Filart, who spoke about her experience in Germany:
I spent 3 months this summer in Munich, Germany doing research on genomic editing through the PREP program! It was such a rewarding experience and I wish I could do it all over again.
It was the perfect balance of work and play, as I was able to spend all week researching and then on the weekends I traveled all over Europe. Because Munich is close to many major European cities, it was the best location to travel to and from.
In my research, I worked on genome editing using CRISPR/Cas9 technology, specifically on models of Parkinson’s disease and other neurodegenerative diseases. I learned so much related to molecular biology and techniques that I am now able to apply to my research here in Berkeley.
