The project EuroTeQ Engineering University aims to link six European universities for creating a holistic virtual campus and to offer a comprehensive and cross-qualification advanced training for students, vocational trainees and professionals. “Together with our regional and European partners, we are creating an open university that promotes mutual understanding among all those involved who are responsible for technology-driven value creation”, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Gerhard Müller, Vice President for Studies and Teaching at TUM, explains the EuroTeQ vision.
Different challenges, a common purpose
The workshop participants, which included representatives of Siemens, Infineon, VDI, and the Bavarian Chamber of Engineers-Construction, among others, were enthusiastically committed to the EuroTeQ idea. They see the project as a chance for creating a holistic educational system that brings forward the competences for the professional world of the future – the so-called ‘21st century skills’ – and may anchor lifelong learning as an integral part of the professional circle.
The group agreed that EuroTeQ educational offers should transmit a sense of societal responsibility and a framework for meaningful learning and working. According to them, the project opens a door from TUM to other learning ecosystems and at the same time serves as a bridge to overcome conventional meta narratives und languages of different disciplines and hierarchies. Participants, however, deem that incentives for the people to participate in the educational programmes need to be manifold. On the one hand, there should be (micro)-credits and honor degrees for student and vocational trainees. On the other hand, there should be flexible project related formats, in which cooperation takes place in an encouraging and enjoyable atmosphere, guaranteeing the success of the EuroTeQ Engineering University.
The co-creation workshop confirmed the productive cooperation among associations and companies, university and non-academic education. Further co-creation workshops will be held with participation of the local environments of our European partner universities in Estonia, Denmark, France, the Netherlands und Czech Republic. Results will be integrated into the project’s work packages, and associated partners will be embedded long-term into the governance and development of the project.
