One of the tasks of the TUM Mumbai office is to analyze trends in higher education, research and industry in India. Therefore, TUM Mumbai regularly meets with partners from industry and academia and establishes new ties for the ever growing TUM network in India.
In this regard, TUM Mumbai visited the BASF Innovation Campus in Mumbai on February 7, 2019. Liaison officer Hanna Kriebel met with its Director to get an insight in its innovative research and development activities. The chemical sector is one of the fastest growing in India and is forecasted by the Indian Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals (GoI) to double its size to $300 billion by 2025. The BASF Innovation Campus in Mumbai pursues a holistic approach in bringing together different parties engaged in the innovation process like researchers, developers, technicians as well as production and sales experts at one site to create new solutions, tailor-made for the Indian market.
The main research focus areas of the BASF Innovation Campus are:

- Process Development
- Organic Synthesis
- Development activities in Performance Chemicals, Care Chemicals and Pigments & Dispersions
In order to develop innovative solutions, BASF is also collaborating closely with the academia and is fostering ties with 600 universities and research institutes worldwide.
