PoliMi-TUM partnership for talent promotion and research cooperation

Politecnico di Milano (PoliMi) is the best technical university in Italy and one of the leading technical universities in Southern Europe. The development of cutting-edge technologies and sustainable solutions for global social challenges is as much a priority for PoliMi as it is for TUM. After many years of close cooperation at chair and departmental level, the strategic partnership for talent promotion and research cooperation was sealed at the end of 2022.

The partnership between TUM and PoliMi is defined by two main pillars:

  • Fostering talent and supporting a joint talent pool
  • Research collaborations and building joint research communities in the areas of Green Hydrogen, Artificial Intelligence, Materials Science and Digital Medicine

Partnership highlights

The European Talent Academy, launched in 2021, is a joint initiative of TUM and its partners Imperial College London and Politecnico di Milano. It supports young research talents in developing their skills and building a network with the colleagues of the partners. More than 40 young talents have already benefited from the program. In 2023, the guiding theme of the third cohort is "Lifelong Health".

On November 11, 2022, a delegation from TUM visited Politecnico di Milano to discuss different areas of future cooperation and to institutionalize the ongoing talks with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

Prof. Dr. Juliane Winkelmann, TUM Vice President for International Alliances & Alumni and Stefano Ronchi, Delegate of the Rector for International Affairs at PoliMi, signed the agreement. The visit to Milan marked the conclusion of exploratory talks between the two institutions that began back in 2020.

The annual call for joint projects in the TUM Global Incentive Fund represents a milestone in the development and intensification of collaborations at the chair level. Since 2022, researchers can also apply for funds for collaborative projects with Politecnico di Milano.
