EuroTech Universities Alliance

The EuroTech Universities Alliance is a strategic partnership of leading European universities for science and technology. It was founded in 2006 and has operated as an alliance in Brussels since 2011. Today, EuroTech consists of the partners Denmark's Technical University (DTU), Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Ecole Polytechnique (l'X), Technion Israel Institute of Technology, Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), and Technical University of Munich (TUM).

The EuroTech Universities Alliance is committed to excellence in research and teaching. It combines the strengths of the partner universities to successfully shape initiatives with high relevance for society and industry in an international context. The alliance provides various services and financial incentives to continually facilitate new collaborative projects between the partners. Since 2011, the joint liaison office in Brussels has ensured visibility in the European capital, bringing EuroTech topics directly into the EU's science, education, and innovation agenda.

Under the presidency of Professor Thomas F. Hofmann, the alliance has given itself a new vision, mission, and an ambitious roadmap until 2025. Initiatives in three new thematic areas have been launched.

In addition to research and innovation activities, the use and development of joint research infrastructure will shape the agenda for the coming years. This unprecedented effort of the partners marks a new stage of cooperation and demonstrates the importance the presidents attach to the alliance. With their joint research and innovation agenda, EuroTech aims to promote the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and contribute to Europe's digital sovereignty.

In this sense, the partners also want to address the vital issue of sustainable campus development and jointly develop concepts for the green university campus of the future: digital, international, innovative, and dynamic.

A large-scale project in educational cooperation was launched in 2020 under TUM coordination: the EuroTeQ Engineering University. The aim is not only to train the best global talents in science and technology, but also to create an open campus that integrates new target groups and contributes to lifelong learning.

The EuroTech Universities Alliance wants to enable a climate-friendly future with smart, breakthrough technologies. That is why the six technical universities have set new priorities in research, teaching and technology transfer, the EuroTech focus areas:

  • Sustainable Society (including Smart & Urban Mobility, Space & Earth Observation, and Circular Economy)
  • Artificial Intelligence for Engineering Systems
  • Additive Manufacturing

These new fields have a strong sustainability focus, and are complemented by the successful collaboration fields of health & bioengineering and innovation & entrepreneurship.

In these focus areas, EuroTech universities are engaged in building dynamic, interdisciplinary networks with the active participation of scientists, students and industry partners. EU funding opportunities are presented in workshops and active support is provided for the development of consortia and applications for EU research programs. Travel funds and incentive funding are provided directly by each university.

Please contact us if you would like to cooperate with EuroTech partners and are in need for funding. We support bottom-up development of new topics and proposals. At least three of the six partner universities must be involved in your project.

The liaison office in Europe's capital supports the TUM family with information and knowledge transfer through direct cooperation with EU institutions and key players in Brussels. In addition, our colleague on site facilitates European research collaboration and helps build Horizon Europe applications, especially in the EuroTech network.
