EuroTeQ Teaching Fund – Call for proposals 2022

The EuroTeQ Teaching Fund supports teachers at the Technical University of Munich in the realization of digital teaching projects in cooperation with European partners. Apply now for funding in 2022. The application deadline is March 10, 2022.

The EuroTeQ Engineering University fosters the collaboration between six strong Technical Universities and 45 associated partners in order to incorporate the European spirit in a future-proof and innovative engineering education. Together, we want to build an open EuroTeQ campus that connects teachers and learners across countries and disciplines. The EuroTeQ Teaching Fund aims to promote an open educational approach, providing innovative formats for and together with European partners.

Eligibility requirements

All TUM professors as well as academic staff with a teaching assignment are eligible to apply, if the chair agrees to the project and to advance the project’s funding.

Program lines and selection criteria

There are two major program lines that your projects funded through the EuroTeQ Teaching Fund can focus on:

  1. cross-campus education
  2. innovative study opportunities

Please see the Guide for applicants for details.

A multidisciplinary approach is possible. All projects must be evaluated upon completion to assess the demand for the new formats, its quality, added value, and potential for campus-wide scalability.

For a successful application, at least two of the following criteria should be met:

  • Your project aims to try out and explore new perspectives and approaches in engineering education
  • You would like to open your courses to European students from our partners as well
  • You are interested in working with faculty of our EuroTeQ partners to develop and deliver collaborative teaching formats, taking into account intercultural perspectives
  • You enable students to collaborate in a digital and interactive learning environment
  • You enable students to experience digital engineering education through the implementation of a competency-based approach

We are primarily looking for blended learning approaches or virtual teaching formats (including examinations) that act as a catalyst for interaction between disciplines as well as contribute to the understanding of value creation processes. These can be existing course offerings that take up the EuroTeQ idea or new formats to be developed, such as a micro-credential – a new form of qualification for specific competencies.

Applicants should explicitly state in which way and to what extent the EuroTeQ ambitions are reflected in the planned teaching format, and how the project plans to involve students and teachers from EuroTeQ partners or new target groups and associated partners. In addition, the project proposal should refer to the integration of intercultural diversity and European values.

This call has a total indicative budget of 65,000 euros to be awarded to successful projects. Budget requests are not expected to exceed 10,000 euros in total. Funds can only be spent on activities, which fit the purpose of this call. Applicants are requested to break down their budget using the table in the application form, see Financing plan. The principle of expediency, economy and sustainability of the use of funds applies.

Eligible costs are student and research assistants, project-based software licenses and IT-support, video production, travel costs to partner universities or to Brussels. For any other costs, please check with the program manager.

Project financing within the EuroTeQ Teaching Fund is provided by reimbursement of costs, either to the TUM chair or directly to project members. Advance payments and the payment of lump sums are not possible. Only activities that have actually taken place are eligible for reimbursement.

Application process and required documents

Application documents and submission

A complete application consists of the following documents:

  • Application form completed in English, with a detailed project description
  • Schedule for the conception, implementation, and evaluation phases
  • Detailed financing plan

Only complete applications submitted in due time will be considered. Each applicant is allowed to apply only once per call for proposals. Please send all application documents by March 10, to euroteq(at)tum.de.

Decisions are expected to be announced in early April 2022.

Selection process

A review panel chaired by the Vice President for Studies and Teaching at TUM – with representatives from ProLehre Medien and Didaktik, the TUM student representation, and colleagues from the EuroTeQ partner universities – evaluates the submitted applications. The following criteria are given special consideration:

  • Realization of the call criteria and integration of the project into the EuroTeQ Campus and EuroTeQ Course Catalog in the fall/winter semester 2022.
  • Innovative use or development of new teaching formats
  • Quality of collaboration with an alliance partner or associated project partner (e.g. industry partner)
  • Sustainability of the project, potential to create a toolbox for innovative digital teaching that can be shared with partners

The EuroTeQ Teaching Fund is announced at all six EuroTeQ partners. Via an exchange forum on the EuroTeQ website (www.euroteq.eu), teachers from the partner universities can network with each other and plan joint teaching projects.

Duration of projects

Project start date is expected to be April/May 2022, so that courses can be offered in the European fall/winter semester. Funding ends December 31, 2022, even if the activity extends beyond the calendar year. Extensions will not be approved. Projects may continue, but funding cannot be carried over into the next calendar year.

What are micro-credentials?

Micro-credentials refer to small teaching or educational units that, when completed, have a stand-alone value and clear learning outcome. Procedures and standards for the assessment and recognition of learning objectives are currently being developed at EU-level. The EuroTeQ Engineering University wants to be actively involved in this process and be an agenda-setter in the European Higher Education Area. Therefore, we support and accompany teachers who want to pilot a micro-credential in order to make them an internationally recognized format. For the planning and realization of your Micro-Credential, please contact Thomas Münch, thomas.muench@tum.de.

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) provides TUM with this funding to expand the university's EuroTeQ activities and promote the internationalization of teaching. The EuroTeQ Engineering University is co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union.
