Some of the main activities of the TUM Mumbai office include cultivating relationships and establishing contacts with local stakeholders for a targeted networking of TUM in India. At the beginning of April two meetings took place in New Delhi, both of which offered opportunities to further enhance TUM’s regional engagement in India. Liaison Officer Hanna Kriebel participated in both events.

To celebrate 100 years of Bauhaus, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee – TUM’s longstanding partner university – in cooperation with the German House for Research and Innovation (DWIH) organized an event at the German Embassy on April 8, 2019.

The “Indo-German Seminar: Bauhaus @100” saw eminent speakers such as Prof. Gerd Zimmermann, former President of the Bauhaus University in Weimar and Prof. P S Chani, head of the Department of Architecture & Planning at the IIT Roorkee. The speakers highlighted the phenomenon that was Bauhaus and shared insights and their interpretations of this progressive German modernist art school and the influence it had on Indian design and architecture. The seminar was followed by a networking dinner reception where the participants – comprising students, scholars, architects, and representatives of German scientific organizations – engaged in further lively discussions with the experts.

The following day, Hanna Kriebel participated in the DWIH Board Meeting, where the new German Ambassador to India, Walter J. Lindner, introduced himself to the German scientific community. His Excellency Mr. Lindner came to India following his tenure as State Secretary in the Foreign Office in Berlin. He assured the assembled representatives of German organizations of the importance of science and technology cooperation, which will be one of the main topics in the upcoming Indo-German intergovernmental consultations in Delhi in autumn this year.
