TUM Beijing: Tsinghua-TUM Talks 2024 – Working together for progress in precision medicine and biopharmaceuticals

The annual Tsinghua-TUM Talks, organized by the Tsinghua International Graduate School (SIGS) in Shenzhen and the TUM Beijing Liaison Office, focused on biopharmaceutical innovations and precision medicine on December 5, 2024. The hybrid event attracted a diverse audience and highlighted the close partnership between TUM and Tsinghua University.

Nearly 50 students and researchers from Tsinghua SIGS gathered on-site in Shenzhen, while 25 additional contributors from China and Germany participated in the scientific exchange via Zoom. Almost 2,000 viewers followed the event via livestream.

In her opening remarks, Prof. Juliane Winkelmann, TUM Senior Vice President for International Alliances and Alumni, emphasized the importance of the partnership: “Our collaboration with Tsinghua reflects the transformative potential of combining engineering principles with medical innovation. Together, we are exploring pioneering solutions to enhance healthcare delivery and improve outcomes worldwide.”

Prof. Yang Bin, Vice President of Tsinghua University, also highlighted the significance of the cooperation: “This partnership demonstrates our shared commitment to addressing global challenges through academic excellence and interdisciplinary innovation.”

The event featured engaging presentations by leading experts, offering insights into innovative research approaches and applications:

  • Synthetic Organoids for Precision Cancer Medicine and Regenerative Therapy

The Tsinghua-TUM Talks 2024 impressively demonstrated the importance of cooperation between the two institutions. 

In his closing remarks, Dr. Wang Runming emphasized the role of joint initiatives: “We hope these discussions will contribute to further deepening the collaboration between Tsinghua and TUM in the future, particularly in the area of Advanced Healthcare Engineering, which is undeniably a highly prominent and relevant topic on a global scale.”

The Tsinghua-TUM Talks 2024 was not only a platform for the exchange of groundbreaking ideas, but also a symbol of the growing international cooperation aimed at tackling global challenges together.
