In order to get to know the TUM start-up ecosystem with all its networking opportunities, educational formats and locations, a Tsinghua delegation consisting of doctoral students and board members – including the director of Tsinghua x-Lab, Dr. Xiuqing Hao – various sites of TUM and the Munich start-up ecosystem. The visitors gained insights into co-living and co-working opportunities for start-ups in Munich and took part in teaching formats. In addition, they attended networking events such as the founders' breakfast at the TUM Incubator and the Hack'n'Talk, where they chatted with TUM founders, as well as laboratories and workshops at the TUM Venture Labs on the Garching campus.
TIE² and Tsinghua x-Lab
TIE² is an entrepreneurship program between TUM and our flagship partner, Tsinghua University. The program was launched in 2016 and is meanwhile organized in cooperation between Tsinghua x-Lab and TUM Entrepreneurship. The x-Lab teams work in a wide variety of areas, some of which are very specific: SkyMed, for example, specializes in the treatment of nasal cancer and has been in close contact with the TUM Venture Lab Healthcare. SkyMed is already working on projects with Chinese hospitals.
Staff exchange between TUM and Tsinghua: learning from each other in many ways
The close partnership between the universities is an ideal prerequisite for learning from each other at all levels - including in science management. The Erasmus program offers selected international partners the chance to spend a training period abroad. Six employees from science management at the Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School (Tsinghua SIGS) had the opportunity to visit various central TUM units during a one-week program and engage in intensive exchange with their TUM counterparts. The staff at TUM also gained valuable new insights and got to know other perspectives on their work areas. The welcome ceremony for the first-semester students at the Garching campus was a particular highlight for the Chinese colleagues.
After this successful week with our Chinese guests, TUM is looking forward to further fruitful collaboration via exchange programs for students and staff, cooperation projects of our researchers - and of course also in terms of start-ups: Within the framework of TIE², a visit of a TUM team to Beijing is already planned for next year.
