The program of this year's TUM Global Week consisted of various drop-in sessions which allowed for informal meetings with the TUM liaison officers and the colleagues from TUM Asia. In addition, participants were able to inform themselves about region-specific trends and potentials in various thematic info sessions.
News and trends from Asia
TUM Beijing Liaison Officer Zhenshan Jin spoke about trends in the Chinese higher education sector and introduced Chinese partner universities with which TUM cooperates more closely. The TUM Asia info session, hosted by TUM Asia Managing Director Dr. Markus Wächter and his team Daphne Ang, Lenny Christina, and Pan Yu, focused on TUM Asia's current recruiting activities and illustrated how TUM's offshore campus in Singapore reacted to the challenges of the Corona pandemic.
Assessments from Brussels with focus on students
Valerie Schegk from the TUM Brussels office addressed her info session specifically to TUM students and, among other things, looked into the question of whether the European Union under German leadership is well prepared to overcome the current crisis without ignoring other important issues such as climate change, migration, and digitalization.
Insights from Latin America & new colleague in North America
TUM São Paulo Liaison Officer, Sören Metz, gave insights into the different opportunities for student exchange in Latin America and an overview of the Brazilian, Mexican, Colombian, Argentinean and Chilean higher education and research landscapes. TUM members from different faculties and administrative units took the opportunity to meet the new TUM San Francisco Liaison Officer, Jeff Ouimet, and to discuss possibilities for future cooperation with TUM’s office for North America.
TUM Global will offer more digital events in the future
Even though virtual events can only replace the personal exchange with our liaison officers and TUM Asia to a limited extent, they also entail some advantages over face-to-face events. So several participants welcomed the opportunity to participate in virtual TUM Global events from their workplace at short notice.
In the future, the TUM Global network will therefore use the digital formats to report regularly from the different regions in addition to the event offers of the physical TUM Global Week.
