TUM São Paulo: Rush on TUM booth at virtual study fair for Latin America

Global South, TUM Global, TUM São Paulo | 28.05.2020

Almost 4,000 students from various regions of Latin America took part in the Virtual Fair Latin America on May 9, 2020. This makes the fair on studying in Germany one of the most successful digital events that the DAAD has so far carried out in the region. Very gratifying: The TUM booth was particularly well attended.

The Virtual Fair Latin America is aimed at students and prospective students from Spanish-speaking Latin American countries, mainly Argentina, Chile, Peru, Colombia and Mexico. Interested parties from Guatemala, El Salvador, Venezuela and Costa Rica also visited TUM São Paulo Liaison Officer Sören Metz at his virtual exhibition stand.

In two virtual exhibition halls, the participants had the whole afternoon to find out more at the stands of various German universities. They were able to find out more about the universities via PDFs, presentations and videos available at the stand, as well as communicate directly with the stand managers via chat.

Great interest in study programs at TUM

Together with three colleagues from the TUM Center for Study and Teaching, the TUM Liaison Officer advised around 1,800 visitors. The majority of them were interested in English-language master's programs, whereby graduates from German schools abroad in Latin America also found out about bachelor's programs. In addition, numerous students were interested in a doctorate or a postdoc at TUM.

TUM Liaison Officer Sören Metz was very pleased that the online format was so well received: “Virtual trade fairs are getting better and better and are ideal for disseminating information about studying and research at TUM. The rush for the chats at the booth was so big that it wasn't always possible to serve everyone at the same time - but at traditional trade fairs it isn't much different at the TUM booths either ;-). ”

Following on from the successful virtual fair on studying in Germany, the DAAD is organizing a webinar exclusively for the more than 4,000 participants on June 6, 2020, at which Sören Metz will again be available for questions and information about studying and research at the TUM booth. In addition to lectures, several Q&A sessions are planned in which a TUM alumna from Latin America will pass on her experiences.
