TUM São Paulo: Promoting the TUM Global DeepTech Venture Initiative in Latin America

Global South, TUM Global, News, TUM São Paulo | 30.03.2022

In 2022, the TUM liaison office in São Paulo will continue to present the topic of innovation and entrepreneurship in Germany to the region. On March 10, 30 students with an affinity for entrepreneurship and scientists from all over Latin America took part in the online event for the Munich Global Impact Sprint as part of the TUM Global DeepTech Venture Initiative (GDTV).

As last year, TUM São Paulo again organized an online event together with TUM ForTe in mid-March. With almost 50 registrations and over 30 participants, the event was well attended and showed a pleasing regional diversity with the majority of interested parties from Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, and Peru.

The attendees were mainly interested in finding out how to start up a business in Munich, especially at TUM, and how innovation and start-ups work in Germany in general. After the event, over 60% of the participants said that they had been motivated by the event to found a start-up in Munich or Germany.

The key point of the event was the presentation of the TUM Global DeepTech Venture Initiative by Patrick Huber from TUM ForTe. Together with UnternehmerTUM, the initiative supports start-ups from all over the world to settle in the high-tech metropolis of Munich with the help of an experienced network of experts. The focus here is on the fields of artificial intelligence, robotics, additive manufacturing, and sustainable mobility – areas in which TUM is particularly strong in research.

The core topic of the GDTV presentation was the Munich Global Impact Sprint. This is an online program that supports international tech talents and teams in developing their business idea. Participants:receive access to Europe's leading center for start-up and innovation as well as to Munich's start-up scene.  All participants benefit from one-to-one support from the start-up consultancy, online workshops, pitch training, and exclusive support from mentors and industry experts.

TUM alumnus founder story: added value through first-hand experience report
A special highlight was the contribution by TUM alumnus Pablo Vasconcelos de la Portilla. He told his personal story and made it clear how TUM has supported him along the way. The Mexican-born founder just now graduated with a master's degree in March and, as a participant in the TUM Global DeepTech Venture Program last year, was able to found his start-up Farbe, where Vasconcelos is now successfully combining artificial intelligence with the world of art.
