Approximately 80 researchers from the Technical University of Munich (TUM) Brazil, Sao Paulo State University (UNESP), and the University of Queensland (UQ) came together at the UNESP’s University Council auditorium for the opening of the third Global Alliance on Bioeconomy symposium.
After an inaugural session in São Paulo, the researchers headed to Ubatuba, at the coast of São Paulo State. During the four-day schedule of activities, they presented and discussed current projects and opportunities for cooperation. The event was made possible due to a joint call published in 2018 by FAPESP and the Bavarian University Center for Latin America (BAYLAT).
The two leading scientists of TUM involved in this trilateral cooperation are the rector of the TUM Straubing campus, Prof. Dr. Volker Sieber, and the Chair of Analytical Food Chemistry in Weihenstephan, Prof. Dr. Michael Rychlik.
The TUM Latin America liaison office was involved in the preparation of the symposium right from the start and organized a funding session in the first day inviting representatives from DFG, FAPESP and CAPES.
TUM São Paulo Liaison Officer Sören Metz also organized an industry session, which was held on the last day. In this session, representatives from industry shared their vision of bio-based economy. The next step now will be to match the industry needs with research which is developed in the Global Bioeconomy Alliance.
