TUM São Paulo: Successful workshop within the framework of the Alexander von Humboldt Symposium in Buenos Aires

News, TUM São Paulo | 31.10.2019

On October 24, the liaison office TUM São Paulo organized an all-encompassing PhD and postdoc workshop with numerous partners in Argentina’s capital on occasion of the 250 year anniversary in honor of Alexander von Humboldt. Around 75 participants attended the talks and afterwards took the chance to get individual consultation regarding doctoral and postdoctoral research fellowships in Germany.

The reports of former researchers and alumni of German universities and research centers were of great interest to early career researchers. Presentations given by the organizations and educational institutions offered valuable information pertaining to study, research, fellowship, and funding opportunities. What made the symposium especially interesting, however, was the first-hand experience of students and researchers who had been in Germany. The questions asked ranged from the best strategy for finding accommodation to the traditions and customs of German culture.

In Argentina, research carried out at German universities, research centers and within industry, boasts an excellent reputation. The country, which historically has one of the best education indices in the region, has a long-standing relationship with German science institutions. In 2019, the two countries celebrated 50 years of research cooperation in the field of the joint commission of Science & Technology Cooperation (STC).

TUM liaison officer Sören Metz organized the workshop in Buenos Aires together with representatives of the following institutions: FU Berlin, TU Berlin, University of Münster, DFG, German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (AvH).
