Sören Metz, Liaison Officer of the representation for Latin America, TUM São Paulo, advised about 300 participants during the EUROPOSGRADOS in Santiago de Chile. The interest in English master’s degree programs at TUM was particularly high, but also doctoral research and master’s programs in German and English received a lot of attention. The widespread interest in TUM can also be attributed to the scholarship program Becas Chile, where the Chilean research funding agency CONICYT awards high grades to TUM’ s program offerings, increasing awareness among Chilean students.
The TU9 presentation, an integral part of the student fair program, was consequently well attended: around 40 interested students gathered information about the TU9 alliance of leading technical universities in Germany and in particular on TUM and Munich city as a study destination.
Further meetings in Chile with excellent partners
Prior to the participation in the EUROPOSGRADOS fair in Santiago, the Liaison Officer visited the partner universities Universidad de Chile (UChile) and Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (UC). UC has been leading the QS Latin America ranking since 2018. In 2019 UC again defended this title, followed by the UChile, the number 2 in Chile.
In addition to bilateral student exchange, TUM maintains a close cooperation with UC in the frame of the "international dimension" of Erasmus +, which allows for funded student and staff mobilities. At a special fair organized for UC partner universities on March 20, the Liaison Officer presented these mobility and exchange offerings to UC students and staff.
In addition to the scientific contacts, Sören Metz and the Bavarian Representative Office South America discussed their respective activities exploring possibilities of future joint cooperation. The representation of the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs is responsible for the Chile, Argentina, Colombia and Peru – key countries for the activity scope of the TUM São Paulo office as well.
