TUM San Francisco: TUM Alumni celebrate the start of the New Year in the Bay Area
TUM Global, TUM San Francisco, News |

With over 400 alumni in the region, the Technical University of Munich is a key part of the flourishing research and technology sector in the Bay Area. Many TUM graduates work at renowned institutions such as Stanford, UC Berkeley, and UCSF, where they conduct research in fields like life sciences, medicine, and computer science.
TUM Alumni play a key role in the Bay Area
In addition, TUM alumni make significant contributions to the Bay Area's technology sector, holding positions at leading companies like Google, Meta, Apple, Microsoft, and Amazon. Some are pursuing entrepreneurial ambitions, founding startups, seeking investments, and aiming to enter the U.S. market. Every year, TUM’s School of Management and TUM Entrepreneurship send students to Stanford for research projects. Thanks to a new partnership with the Doerr School of Sustainability, many of these projects focus on ecopreneurship and sustainable development.
The influence of TUM alumni extends across numerous fields in the Bay Area. Their work fosters innovation and helps tackle key challenges in health, technology, and entrepreneurship. In doing so, they actively contribute to a more sustainable future for the region and beyond.
Strong transatlantic partnerships
The New Year’s celebration is also an opportunity to celebrate TUM’s ongoing engagement with important German institutions in the Bay Area. These include the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in San Francisco, the German Center for Research and Innovation (DWIH), the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), and the German Research Foundation (DFG).
These partnerships promote transatlantic research and economic collaboration and work toward solving significant social and ecological issues.
100 Years of DAAD: A reason to celebrate
This year, we also celebrated the 100th anniversary of the DAAD, which has enabled research and mobility for countless students and researchers, including many TUM alumni. We are grateful for the support of the DAAD, which has had a lasting impact on the careers of our alumni and continues to shape the research landscape in the U.S. and Germany. Here's to another 100 years of successful collaboration!
We would like to thank all our sponsors and participants who made this New Year’s celebration an unforgettable event, and we look forward to another year of collaboration and success.
