TUM San Francisco: New TUM Liaison Officer in North America

News, TUM San Francisco | 29.06.2020

We are excited to introduce Jeff Ouimet, our new TUM Liaison Officer in San Francisco. Jeff comes to TUM after spending 25 years practicing as a patent lawyer in the life sciences and an attorney at law representing companies and individuals in intellectual property and international transactional matters. Jeff will now work with TUM’s academic and institutional partners in the US and Canada, as well as with the alumni network. We caught up with Jeff online to get to know him a little better and find out more about his plans for the TUM San Francisco Liaison Office.

Welcome to TUM, Jeff! What excites you most about the role of TUM San Francisco Liaison Officer?

What excites me most about this role is the global scope. I have always loved international work, and this job gives me the chance to work with interesting people from all over the world. The word Liaison says it all: I have the opportunity to be a bridge between TUM and its partners in North America, and with the many TUM alumni living over here. Bringing people together for the good of all is something I never get tired of.

What do you see as the biggest challenge in this new role?

For me, the biggest challenge is keeping up with the changes at TUM. It’s a dynamic environment where things change fast and you have to be ready to pivot as new developments arise. For instance, as new research findings are made, the Liaison Officer may be called on to suggest appropriate collaborative partners. It requires keeping tabs on what is happening at TUM and in North American universities, research institutions and companies. The entrepreneurial spirit of TUM means I also get a first-hand look at the latest research and technologies, which is something I always loved in my days as a patent lawyer.

What motivates you most in your work?

The greatest motivation I have in my work is learning. I am very curious and always on the lookout for new things to learn. Working as TUM’s San Francisco Liaison Officer gives me the opportunity to learn new things and face new challenges every day.

What do you enjoy in your free time?

I enjoy spending time with my wife and son, travelling, and riding motorcycles.
