The German Consul General Hans-Ulrich Suedbeck welcomed the guests with a New Year speech and expressed his appreciation to the institutions for their initiative to bring together people from different institutions of higher education from both countries the United States and Germany.
This New Year's Reception was TUM San Francisco's first annual event and it was a special reception as it also celebrated this year's 150th anniversary of the university. In her speech, Dolores Volkert, Head of TUM's North America office, emphasized TUM's evolvement from a polytechnic school to one of the leading universities in Europe and one of the best technical universities in the world. She addressed the culture of excellence that TUM developed in its 150 years of existence and recalled the innovations coming from TUM, like Carl von Linde's refrigeration, the launch of the Diesel engine or the electric car MUTE. She thanked partners and supporters for the good cooperation during the past year.
The TUM alumni network is a global network. Graduates live in 139 countries around the world; a large number of them live in North America. TUM San Francisco maintains the relationship between TUM and its alumni across North America.
