TUM Brussels: Innovation encouraged – EuroTeQ call for ideas now open

TUM Brussels | 18.10.2021

The EuroTeQ Collider brings together students with trainees and professionals from technical fields, as well as a variety of stakeholders from society and industry. Through the diverse expertise of the participants, the first step is to identify the challenges of the 21st century and then develop appropriate solutions in joint project weeks. The first Collider call for ideas is now open.

The EuroTeQ Collider is the centerpiece of the EuroTeQ Engineering University. These innovative project weeks will take place in the spring of 2022 at all six locations Unlike any other training format, professors at individual universities will not determine the topics of the projects here. In the first phase, we address the swarm intelligence to identify topics the EuroTeQ universities will then translate into innovation-driven education formats. This first phase of submission of ideas is now open and is intended to start a creative process that brings together thoughts, concepts, and approaches from all over Europe.

Key topic Leave no waste behind

Each year the Collider is embedded in a central theme. In the current call for ideas, all participants are invited to submit potential projects, challenges, or simply initial ideas for a desirable future in relation to the topic. This year is all about waste disposal and prevention. The way we live today produces a lot of waste and we really need to rethink the way we package, consume, or dispose of materials. In addition, the issue is more far-reaching than what individuals can manage. Government and market systems influence how we deal with waste through incentives and prohibitions, and need innovation-driven impetus, for dealing with chemical or even nuclear waste.

Do we need to redirect our search to find sustainable alternatives, or question our culture of consumerism? The theme encourages manifold ideas and potential projects for engineers, students of life sciences, social sciences, or business management. Not to forget the important perspective of vocational trainees in technical fields, with their hands-on approaches, as well as professionals with their work experience. The call for ideas is really looking for insights into our all approaches to a waste-free future.

Innovation-driven education running in the EuroTeQ DNA

The ideas submitted are bundled and turned into interesting, practical projects on which our diverse teams work together. While students receive five to six ECTS credits, non-academic participants receive the EuroTeQ Professional certificate upon completion of the collider.

Posing the same challenges in the EuroTeQ Colliders to academic and non-academic learners across the variety of European regions will give us a unique insight into the ideas and concerns of an entire generation. It is important that there is as much diversity as possible in each team so that everyone brings a different perspective and a real collision of ideas is possible. This is how innovation is truly sparked. It is our aim that the projects bring about applicable solutions and create real-impact. The best projects will be presented EU-wide in a major event, the EuroTeQaThon.

You are curious and want to participate in the first EuroTeQ Collider? Then visit the EuroTeQ website and register! The call for ideas is still open until October 31.
