TUM Beijing: TUM and Tsinghua SIGS discuss flagship roadmap for 2021

News, Global South, TUM Global, TUM Beijing | 14.04.2021

The joint work of the partners TUM and Tsinghua enters the next stage: On March 30, Vice President Prof. Juliane Winkelmann met with Prof. Gao Hong, Executive Dean of Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School (Tsinghua SIGS), and SIGS Deputy Dean Dr. Zhang Chuanjie for a virtual exchange. The goal was to plan the implementation of concrete projects within the framework of the flagship cooperation of the two universities in the most timely manner possible.

With the aim to promote mutual interests and to stimulate further collaboration, particularly with Tsinghua SIGS in Shenzhen, TUM and Tsinghua University concluded a flagship partnership in October 2020.

Since signing a corresponding MoU, the two universities have advanced ideas for cooperation across the flagship focus areas entrepreneurship, life-long learning, and in the field of education, respectively. Reaffirming their mutual commitment to the partnership, Professor Winkelmann and Professor Gao also discussed ideas for a possible joint presence of both universities in Shenzhen.

Implementation of current topics planned by end of 2021

These conversations will continue in the months ahead, as TUM Beijing will organize new engagement formats to connect researchers on both sides in areas of shared interest. On the part of both TUM and Tsinghua University, it is planned that all current topics will lead to tangible results by the targeted visit of a high-ranking TUM delegation to Shenzhen at the end of 2021.

These topics include a joint double degree program, expanded student exchanges, the TUM-Tsinghua Talks public event series, joint entrepreneurship activities, and an interlocking of funding opportunities. The TUM Beijing liaison office will also organize new networking formats in the coming months to connect scientists from both sides in common focus areas.
