TUM and NTU deepen cooperation – New impulses for research, teaching, and exchange

TUM Global, News | 25.02.2025

In February, TUM welcomed several high-ranking delegations from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore. The discussions with representatives of our flagship partner focused on expanding joint research and teaching projects, as well as exploring new funding opportunities for student and early-career researcher exchanges.

A series of intensive discussions impressively highlighted the close and diverse collaboration between TUM and NTU. The goal of both sides was to further strengthen the partnership. Among the guests were Prof. Ernst Kuipers, Vice President for Research at NTU, and Prof. Simon Redfern, Dean of the NTU College of Science.

Broad spectrum of cooperation fields

The potential areas of cooperation range from environmental and natural sciences to bioeconomy and sustainability, as well as artificial intelligence in medicine and health sciences. Closer collaboration in the field of entrepreneurship was also discussed.

Long-standing partnership with a strong foundation

“The NTU has been one of our most valuable partners for many years, especially through our collaborations with TUM Asia and TUMCREATE. With NTU as a flagship partner of TUM, we are pleased to build a strong foundation for an impactful collaboration,” emphasized Prof. Juliane Winkelmann, Senior Vice President for International Alliances and Alumni.

Support for students and early-career researchers

In addition to intensified collaboration at the professor level, new opportunities for early-career researchers and students were discussed. The TUM Graduate School and the TUM Global & Alumni Office already support academic exchange with NTU through various programs, such as the Joint Supervision Program. Study stays at NTU are possible through the TUMexchange program. On NTU’s side, the Global Connect Fellowship offers students the opportunity to conduct research and study in Singapore for two to three months.

Current call for applications for the Montgelas Program

The Maximilian Graf Montgelas Program enables TUM administrative staff to gain valuable international experience at NTU through fellowships. The deadline for the current application round is March 15. There will be two further rounds in June and October. More about the Montgelas Program
