The agreement lays the foundation for a multifaceted partnership. Planned activities include joint research projects, faculty and student exchanges, as well as co-hosted workshops and seminars. The partnership also provides for mutual access to academic resources and benchmarking opportunities.
A further focus is trilateral collaboration with international partners such as the National University of Singapore (NUS) and institutions within the TUM Global South network. The aim is to build a robust and globally connected alliance of leading universities.
Support through the TUM Global Incentive Fund
To further strengthen the partnership, Duke has been included in the TUM Global Incentive Fund program. The fund provides targeted financial support for strategic collaborations and helps establish sustainable structures for long-term cooperation.
Building on existing academic ties
The new partnership also builds on existing academic relationships. Dr. Volker Blum, Associate Dean for Research at Duke’s Pratt School of Engineering, was a visiting professor at TUM in 2016. During his stay, he collaborated closely with Prof. Patrick Rinke, Chair of AI-Based Materials Science at TUM.
Driving innovation together
Combining their complementary strengths, TUM and Duke aim to generate new momentum in research, teaching, and innovation – contributing to the international academic community and addressing socially relevant challenges.
