The next ATHENS session is coming: Get a taste of Europe for a week!

News | 15.01.2024

Immerse yourself in life at a university abroad for one week and experience it in all its facets: this is what the ATHENS network offers twice a year, in March and November. Applications for the next session are still possible until the end of January.

24 partner universities from 15 different European countries have joined forces in the ATHENS network. The program of the one-week sessions includes challenging academic courses from numerous subject areas as well as the accompanying European Dimension program, through which students get to experience Europe’s cultural diversity.

With ATHENS from TUM to other European countries

Each of the ATHENS partner universities has its charms. "I would definitely recommend participation to all fellow students. I think the Technical Universities of Warsaw or Bucharest are particularly good destinations," explains Felix Zhang. The TUM student was in Warsaw via the ATHENS program in November 2023.

He thoroughly enjoyed the cultural program, which is part of every ATHENS session and rounds up the academic experience: "The city is very beautiful and really interesting. We also had the opportunity to watch an international soccer match between Poland and Latvia. Actually, the whole week was a highlight!"

ATHENS Week in March 2024

The next ATHENS session will take place from March 16 to 23, 2024. TUM students can still apply for a course in the March session via the ATHENS portal until January 30, 2024. More information

Via ATHENS to TUM

Maifarah Anthonijsz is a recent ATHENS alumna. She is studying Biomedical Engineering at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands and was at TUM in November 2023 as part of ATHENS. "The ATHENS program is a great opportunity to dive even deeper into my field and look at it from a different perspective. At the same time, you can explore a new country and meet interesting people." The student also mentions another important aspect: "ATHENS is the perfect opportunity to find out whether you want to go abroad for a whole semester." If you are interested in spending a semester abroad but are still determining the length and destination, ATHENS is a perfect chance to try it out.

ATHENS as an international opportunity for TUM lecturers

ATHENS is also an excellent opportunity for TUM lecturers. During this week, you will have the chance to try out new teaching methods and gain experience with international students. In addition, you will represent TUM globally and thus have a good opportunity to recruit highly motivated Master's and doctoral students from all over the world. Innovative teaching formats include, for example, the Blended Intensive Programs – BIPs for short. In this model, an additional online part is offered on top of the face-to-face course to accommodate further content.
