Technion Campus Leaders in Munich: TUM first choice for the premiere cohort

Global South, TUM Global, News | 06.06.2023

The Technion – Israel Institute of Technology is a long-standing partner of TUM. As part of the launch of the new Technion Campus Leaders (TCL) program, Prof. Dr. Juliane Winkelmann, Senior Vice President for International Alliances and Alumni, welcomed the participants of the first cohort in Munich.

The Technion Campus Leaders program was launched in late 2021 to provide selected potential leaders of the Israeli university with a special professional development opportunity on a global scale. The Technion is thus the first Israeli university to implement the nationwide Leaders in Academia initiative of the Rothschild Foundation and the Israeli Council for Higher Education on an institutional level.

In addition to numerous internal activities, the TCL program also includes visits to renowned universities around the world. The very first TCL cohort chose TUM for this purpose.

Welcome by Senior Vice President Winkelmann and Consul General Shamir
Together with the Israeli Consul General for Southern Germany, Carmela Shamir, TUM Senior Vice President Prof. Dr. Juliane Winkelmann received the Technion delegation at the TUM main campus on May 30. Both emphasized the great importance of Bavarian-Israeli relations and the special role of cooperation between the universities. TUM and the Technion are closely connected across disciplines through many scientific collaborations – and since 2019 additionally through the EuroTech Universities Alliance.

Presentation of TUM best practices
The TCL participants were given insights into the TUM Agenda 2030 and the process of structural reform from Departments to Schools which goes hand in hand with it. Furthermore, the participants learned about TUM Leadership and Talent Development as well as the TUM Gender Equality Plan.

Afterwards, Prof. Hans-Joachim Bungartz, TUM Graduate Dean and Dean of the TUM School of Computation, Information and Technology, welcomed the delegation at the TUM Campus Garching. Here, representatives of the Garching TUM units presented best practices in interdisciplinary research, entrepreneurship and successful industry cooperation to the TCL participants.

Deepening of the partnership through the TCL program
After the visit, the partners agreed that exchanges between the Technion Campus Leaders with the TUM colleagues represented had immensely enriched the partnership between Technion and TUM and inspired new collaborations.

Are you also interested in collaborating with the Technion, Israeli universities or the EuroTech Universities Alliance? Philip Miessner will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Visits to the Technion are possible as part of continuing education opportunities at TUM. Find out about our offer for funded stays abroad
