TalTech delegation visits TUM: Exchange on digital innovation and IT strategies

EuroTeQ, TUM Global, News | 04.11.2025

At the end of October, a delegation from Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech) visited TUM as part of the EuroTeQ University Alliance. The visit offered a chance to exchange ideas on IT, digital learning platforms, and administrative systems – and to explore how TUM continues to shape the digital transformation of higher education.

The TalTech delegation, with experts from IT and communications, met with colleagues from several TUM departments over the course of their visit. Conversations focused on IT security, campus management systems, and digital learning environments.

It quickly became clear that many challenges are shared across European universities – from technical infrastructure to data protection and user experience. The visit allowed both sides to learn from one another and to see how different approaches can address similar challenges.

Getting to know TUM and its campuses

Alongside the professional discussions, the delegation had the chance to explore TUM’s campuses. They visited the main campus in Munich and the Garching campus, where a tour of the Leibniz Supercomputing Center (LRZ) offered a glimpse into the advanced infrastructure supporting research and teaching.

“TUM is impressive – both in its size and how it’s organized,” said Aliina Seppo, IT project manager at TalTech. “Yet many everyday challenges in university operations are very similar, no matter the size of the institution.” The group was particularly taken with the Garching campus – and the distinctive parabolic slide in the computer science building, which added a memorable and playful touch to the visit.

Inspiring collaboration for the future

Kelly Tammist, coordinator for digital marketing at TalTech, shared her impressions: “Seeing TUMonline’s campus management system up close gave me fresh ideas for our work.”

Lehor Meius, head of software development at TalTech, added: “We plan to develop a joint course registry for several Estonian universities. The insights from our TUM visit will directly inform this project.”

The visit left both universities energized about continuing their collaboration and building on each other’s expertise to advance digital solutions.

EuroTeQ: a platform for collaboration and innovation

The delegation’s stay highlighted the value of the EuroTeQ University Alliance as a platform for international exchange. It brings people together with shared goals and fosters collaboration that goes beyond individual projects.

TUM and TalTech plan to continue the dialogue with further workshops and joint initiatives. Their shared mission is to actively shape the digital future of European universities through collaboration, openness, and innovative technology.
