International further education and teaching: TUM employees share their experiences
News |

The goals of an international experience can be as diverse as the participants' job profiles. Expanding one's own horizon of experience and drawing inspiration and motivation for one's own work practice are usually the key objectives.
Four participants shared their experiences with interested TUM employees as part of a panel discussion during TUM Global Week in mid-May.
Leveraging international stays for personal motivation
Dr. Ann-Kathrin Goldbach from the TUM School of Engineering and Design reported on her teaching stay via Erasmus+ at the Technical University of Valencia, where she could take over some courses. Dr. Goldbach was very impressed by the cooperation of the professors on site, especially the supportive interaction with each other. The fact that the students perceived and appreciated her contribution as a significant enrichment was a motivating experience she can now incorporate into her teaching practice at TUM.
Johanna Menzel from the Legal Department of the TUM Center for Study and Teaching described how much she, as a lawyer, was able to learn from the exchange with her Australian colleagues through her Montgelas Fellowship - even though the legal systems are very different. Transparency in communication is just one example that she brings to her work practice at TUM.
International Staff Weeks as an alternative to individual stays
In addition to individually organized stays, structured thematic offers within the framework of so-called "International Staff Weeks" can present an opportunity to get to know another institution, exchange ideas with colleagues from different institutions, and further educate oneself on a topic. Furthermore, employees who complete a preparatory English course at the TUM Language Center have the opportunity to improve their English skills with an intensive course in Ireland.
