EuroTeQ: Shaping the future of European engineering

Global South, TUM Global, News | 22.11.2023

The successful EuroTeQ Engineering University expands its range and prepares for further shaping the future of European Engineering. At the start of the second funding phase by the European Union, two new excellent members were welcomed: the HEC Paris and IESE Business School Barcelona. On November 21 and 22, representatives of all eight partner universities came together at TUM to demonstrate their commitment to the joint transformation of student education and lifelong learning.

At the EuroTeQ Presidential Strategy Forum, the Presidents, Vice Presidents for Education, expert colleagues, and guests discussed the European approach to technological education. As two renowned business schools, HEC Paris and IESE Business School will strengthen the EuroTeQ alliance's expertise in entrepreneurial education and business creation capacities. This constellation is unique in the European higher education landscape.

TUM President Prof. Thomas F. Hofmann, host of the meeting, said: "With EuroTeQ, we aim to be the role model for transforming our institutions to facilitate inclusive access to new technologies through innovative higher education formats. Our perspective is always the future: We need to discuss and foresee which abilities and knowledge students might need six or seven years from now. Together, we set milestones for continuously developing a technologically leading, prosperous Europe – and it is a pleasure to do this with our EuroTeQ partners."

Antoaneta Angelova-Krasteva, Director of Innovation, Digital Education, and International Cooperation at the European Commission, emphasized: "Strategic partnerships between higher education institutions are key as they allow the exchange of good practices and peer learning. Europe faces a tough competition on a global level. And one vital basis to tackle this is education – not only from a scientific and technological perspective but also to promote European values. I am highly impressed by what the EuroTeQ alliance provides to these goals."

EuroTeQ makes training and teaching future-proof

The EuroTeQ Alliance has successfully established the EuroTeQ Campus, which includes a shared virtual course catalog and the EuroTeQ Collider, a challenge-based learning format involving industry. The consortium also promotes lifelong learning, develops programs for teachers and professionals, and integrates stakeholders outside the university. The European Commission granted EuroTeQ a second funding phase of EUR 12.8 million, thus recognizing the network's achievements.

EuroTeQ's unique approach is to invite professional and vocational learners to join their new formats, especially the EuroTeQ Collider, to ensure a diversity of perspectives. Dirk Bochar, Secretary General at the Engineers Europe, praised EuroTeQ's plans to include digitalization and key enabling technologies in the new learning formats to up- and re-skill, especially engineers. EuroTeQ currently develops Micro-Credentials and an executive program for senior specialists to invite first participants in 2025.
