TUM Brussels: EuroTech community tackles the European Green Deal – webinar series launched

TUM Brussels | 24.03.2021

The European Green Deal is one of the six key ambitions of the European Commission for the five years to come. With the overall goal of making Europe a climate-neutral continent by 2050, the European Commission supports research and innovation projects in sustainability within its new Horizon Europe programme. To be well-prepared for these calls for proposals, TUM Brussels and the EuroTech team launched a series of workshops in the EuroTech focus area Sustainable Society.

Under the presidency of Ursula von der Leyen, the European Commission wants to bring climate protection and the reduction of CO2 emission to the center of their ambition. To make this political objective a reality, research and innovation will play a crucial role. Looking at the work programs for 2021/2022, you can find references to the European Green Deal across all six clusters defined under the second pillar of Horizon Europe.

Knowledge brokering and community building

Having Sustainable Society as one of their five fast developing research and innovation focus areas, the partners of the EuroTech Universities Alliance are well-prepared to tackle the challenges of the European Green Deal. The EuroTech community would like to find joint answers to Horizon Europe calls in areas such as circular economy, smart and urban mobility, and earth observation and space. To promote even deeper collaboration in these fields and to maximize the cooperation through EU funding opportunities, TUM Brussels launched a series of webinars together with the colleagues from the EuroTech Brussels office. The goal of these webinars is to inform researchers from all six partners about the upcoming funding opportunities.

Next to the top-down defined calls in the second pillar of Horizon Europe, also bottom-up instruments like the MSCA Doctorates and the EIC Pathfinder were presented. Following the webinars, a mapping was launched across partners to get a better view of the expertise and the interests of the researchers covering different angles of sustainability. Based on the mapping, matchmaking sessions on specific calls will be organized within the next weeks.

If you are interested in getting involved in European cooperation in the fields of circular economy, smart and urban mobility, or earth observation and space, please contact the TUM colleague in Brussels, Maria-Valerie Schegk.

If you would like to learn more about Horizon Europe, you can find detailed information in the TUM Brussels Insights feature Horizon Europe – The 9th European Framework Programme for Research and Innovation
