TUM Cairo: Postdoc workshop “Opportunities for Outstanding Scientists” with Prof. Rank from IAS

TUM is always seeking to attract excellent international talents for research at TUM. March 31 offered another chance to do so: TUM Cairo Liaison Officer Heba Afifi was part of a team that had organized a special postdoc workshop on this day to inform outstanding Egyptian scientists about funding opportunities in Germany. Prof. Rank, Director of the TUM Institute for Advanced Study (IAS), attended the event to give a talk and also to meet the candidates in person.

The workshop “Your Postdoc Career in Germany – Opportunities for Outstanding Scientists” took place at the premises of the DAAD Cairo. The event targeted highly qualified Egyptian PhD holders and postdocs with publications in prestigious international journals. Of the 414 Egyptian candidates that had applied for the workshop, 40 persons were invited to participate.

The event was divided into three segments: The first part was an information session about funding opportunities at TUM and other organizing institutions, such as FU Berlin, TU Berlin and the University of Marburg. During the round table discussions that followed, participants informed themselves more deeply about the fellowships available. In the last part, candidates were provided with helpful tips and advice on proposal writing.

Prof. Ernst Rank, Director of the TUM Institute for Advanced Study, participated in the event as a speaker. He gave insights into research options at TUM and first-hand information about the IAS programs. The Egyptian candidates gladly used the chance to clarify their questions directly with Prof. Rank, thus benefiting from this remarkable network opportunity.
