Tongji University was founded in 1907 by the German doctor Dr. Erich Paulun as the German School of Medicine and Engineering for the Chinese and is still considered a Chinese university with a strong focus on Germany.
Institutional cooperation between TUM and Tongji is primarily linked to the Sino-German Graduate School (CDHK), in which TUM is involved with a double degree program in electrical engineering. 2022 will be the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the People's Republic of China and the Federal Republic of Germany, which is why Tongji wants to further expand its cooperation with German universities.
New research platform for future technologies in planning
To this end, Vice President Lou presented a proposal for a new international research platform that is to be created in Shanghai in order to conduct research into future technologies, especially in the contexts of mobility, manufacturing, the environment and urban planning. On the occasion of the virtual meeting, the partnership agreement between the two universities was finally renewed, which, among other things, regulates the successful student exchange between Tongji and TUM.
