The personal exchange in Munich highlighted the long-standing partnership and simultaneously opened up new perspectives for its further development.
Prof. Maysa Furlan, who has served as UNESP’s Rector since August 2025, came to TUM for her official inaugural visit, where she met with Prof. Juliane Winkelmann. Together, they explored ways to deepen collaboration between TUM and UNESP across multiple areas and to launch new joint initiatives.
The discussions particularly focused on opportunities for new research collaborations, individual exchange programs for researchers, and thematic areas where both universities can jointly develop solutions to global challenges.
TUM and UNESP have been working closely together for many years, especially in the field of bioeconomy. In 2018, they jointly established the Global Bioeconomy Alliance. Since 2022, a strategic partnership has been in place, which also includes programs for joint doctoral training.
The visit underlines Brazil’s role as one of TUM’s key partner countries in Latin America. With Prof. Furlan’s visit, TUM sends another signal of its commitment to expanding its international network and fostering dialogue with leading universities in the Global South.
