“Empowering Women, Energizing the Future”: Indian solar experts visit TUM

The roundtable provided an opportunity to explore different experiences and perspectives from India and Europe. Participants from academia and the solar industry discussed the challenges shaping the energy transition and the contributions that research, industry, and policymakers can make to building a sustainable energy future.
The exchange underscored the value of cross-sector dialogue. Bringing together academic expertise and practical experiences which opened up new perspectives and helped stakeholders better understand the complex challenges of the energy transition while developing solutions collaboratively.
Continuing the dialogue at Intersolar Europe
The conversations continued at Intersolar Europe, where Prof. Miranda Schreurs participated in the session “Connecting Women in Solar Power – From India to Europe and Beyond,” hosted by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ).
During a fireside chat with Catherine Leon, Senior Manager (Policy, R&D, Innovation & Inclusivity) at the National Solar Energy Federation of India (NSEFI), Prof. Schreurs addressed key challenges and opportunities facing the solar sector. Their discussion focused on workforce development, women’s representation in leadership roles, and policy frameworks needed to support a more diverse and future-ready clean energy workforce.
The discussion highlighted that the transition to renewable energy requires not only technological innovation, but also the people, skills, and institutional frameworks needed to ensure that diverse perspectives are represented across the sector.
TUM Mumbai connects partners across continents
A key driver behind the collaboration was TUM Mumbai. Senior Regional Manager Mohaa Vyas supported networking among the partner organizations, identified opportunities for exchange, and connected stakeholders from academia, industry, and policymaking.
Through the collaboration with TUM and the organization of the roundtable, researchers gained valuable insights into international developments in the global renewable energy sector as well as emerging discussions around inclusive leadership and the future of renewable energy. At the same time, the initiative created new opportunities for continued Indo-German dialogue and the future.
