TUM São Paulo

About us

The Technische Universität München (TUM), founded in February 2012 at the German House of Science and Innovation - São Paulo it´s own Liaison Office TUM São Paulo. Building on longstanding cooperation with institutions in the "América Latina" region, the activity focus comprises mainly Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Mexico. For example, with the largest university in Brazil, the University of São Paulo (USP), TUM has a partnership since 1998 encompassing student exchange, a double degree in Mechanical Engineering and joint projects such as „Global Drive“.

Between 2008 and 2011, TUM coordinated with EUBRANEX an ERASMUS MUNDUS program with Brazil, funded by the European Commission. EUBRANEX involved nine European and eleven Brazilian universities. As of 2014, TUM will further intensify its collaboration with Brazil together with ten European and eight Brazilian institutions in the new Erasmus Mundus program SMART² - Smart Cities and Smart Grids for Sustainable Development.

Additionally, TUM engages in scientific and academic cooperation with Brazilian research facilities such as the national research institutes of physics and mathematics in Rio de Janeiro, CBPF and IMPA, as well as the private business school FGV-EAESP in São Paulo.

TUM São Paulo is one of six liaison offices in addition to Beijing, Brussels, Mumbai and Cairo. Already in 2002 TUM established its own offshore campus TUM Asia in Singapore. The expansion of global presence is part of the initiative TUM Global, a core piece of TUM’s institutional strategy which was a part of its successful application within the German Excellence Initiative.
