TUM São Paulo

The Technical University of Munich (TUM) has operated its Liaison Office for Latin America at the German House of Science and Innovation - São Paulo (DWIH-SP) since February 2012. The regional focus of its activities are Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Mexico - hereby building on many years of successful cooperation with Latin American institutions:

The University of São Paulo (USP), for example, the largest university in Brazil, has counted as one of TUM's partners since 1998. And between 2008 and 2011, TUM coordinated with EUBRANEX an ERASMUS MUNDUS program funded by the European Commission involving nine European and eleven Brazilian universities. In the long term, the cooperation has resulted in sustainable partnerships among the partners that last until today.

Scientific cooperation between TUM and Brazil comprises research institutes, the Brazilian Center for Research in Physics (CBPF) and the National Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics (IMPA) in Rio de Janeiro as well as the private business school FGV-EAESP in São Paulo.

PhD and Postdoc Workshops in Latin America

PhD Workshops since 2014

Together with the FU Berlin, TUM São Paulo has developed a new format for consultation and information on doctoral paths available at TUM, specifically designed for potential doctoral candidates in Latin America.

In 2017, this format was extended to Mexico, thus resulting in the successful implementation of six PhD workshops reaching and advising 150 potential candidates up until today. The workshops in São Paulo were financially supported by the DWIH-SP (German House for Research and Innovation - São Paulo).

Postdoc Workshops since 2015

In 2015, as a logical complement to the PhD workshops, TUM São Paulo and FU Berlin started to offer a new format for informing potential postdoc researchers from the Latin American region about career possibilities at TUM.

By the beginning of 2017, the office had conducted four postdoc workshops (two in São Paulo, one in Mexico City and one in Rio de Janeiro) and had advised some 160 potential candidates. The workshops in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro were financially supported by the DWIH-SP (German House for Research and Innovation - São Paulo).
